The Super Eagles may have had a splendid performance Tuesday night in their 2-2 encounter with Ukraine at Dnipro Arena, the Ukraine coach, Andriy Shevchenko has revealed that only four regulars were among the starting 11 that he fielded.
The players are Matvienko, Malinovsky, Zinchenko and Yarmolenko.
In his post match interview monitored onlineby www.sportsvillagesquare.com from the Ukraine FA webite, the coach remarked that he had declared ahead of the encounter that he was going to ring changes in the squad so as to try some relatively untested players.
He further remarked that the squad that held the Super Eagles to 2-2 draw was relatively different from the ‘Blue-Yellow’ squad that had a successful match against Lithuania three days earlier in Vilnius.
He explained that that was why the players that featured against the Super Eagles on Tuesday found mutual understanding very difficult.
He however acknowledged that the Nigeria, even though also in a rebuilding process, had the control of the game right from the first minute.
According to him, the Super Eagles all the same played very well. “Powerful and technical Nigerians have time and again freed themselves from the custody of their opponents and, even by attacking small groups of players, have created moments.
“The first of them was already effective: Iwobi broke into the left corner and fired at Aribo, who opened the scoring with a shot.”
