Ahead of Friday’s final match of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has threatened to enforce a $10.000 fine on the Algerian FA after supporters attacked Egyptian fans.
Algeria secured a spot in the African Cup of Nations final following their last minute win against Nigeria in the semi-finals.
According to CAF officials Algerian fans in Category 3 threw water bottles at some Egyptian supporters staying the East Stand and tried to climb the barrier to attack them in the 72nd minute after some of them celebrated Ighalo’s equalizer.
Following the incident CAF decided to fine the Algerian FA with a sum of $10.000 before retracting the punishment. They threatened to enforce the fine once again if the incident was to take place again in the final.
