A board member of the Delta Football Association and former African Footballer of the Year, Victor Ikpeba, has declared on behalf of the board members that the Delta FA elections, which have been slated to hold in Warri on Thursday, June 13, 2019, will take place as planned by the FA members.

Ikpeba, born on June 12, will be heading for the election the next day after his birthday.

He noted that, the attempt by some persons to scuttle the elections is not acceptable.

Ikpeba, who reacted to an unauthorized letter circulated by the Delta FA Secretary, Azuka Ogosi, declared that those who want to stop the elections in the Delta FA, are out to destroy football in the state.

He stated that the Delta FA Secretary, do not have the powers statutorily to postpone a scheduled elections of the FA, without taking instructions from the Acting chairman and the members.

“It’s an act of insurbodination and anti-association for the Secretary of the Delta FA to send a letter not resulting from the resolution or meeting of the Delta FA members, to stop elections that is 48 hours away.

“From where did he get the authority or powers to write a letter of postponement to members on the association’s official WhatsApp platform.

“We the members of the Delta FA does not have any reason to postpone the elections, so, everything is going on as planned. All the delegates have been confirmed and their accreditation is ready, the same for observers, contestants, Electoral Committee, stakeholders and the media.

The Delta FA Secretary without consulting with the FA chairman and members went on the official platform to send the letter below:

“The Delta Football Association elections earlier scheduled for Thursday 13th June, 2019, has been postponed indefinitely. A new date will be communicated to members soon.” Signed Azuka Ogozi, Secretary Delta FA.

The former Super Eagles’ star, stated that, the Delta FA has not written any letter to it’s parent body, the Nigeria Football Federation, to postpone the elections as everything has been moving on according to plans. And if there was any, the NFF would have sent a letter of postponement through their official channel, but there was no problem to warrant such.

“So, I am happy to say that, the Delta FA elections scheduled for the Victory View Hotel, 122, DSC Expressway, Udu, Warri will hold as scheduled. An authorised person must have influenced the Secretary to write such a retrogressive letter aimed at pulling back football in Delta State.”
