DESPITE LOSING CROWN, ANTHONY JOSHUA EARNS FOUR TIMES MORE THAN NEW CHAMPION, ANDY RUIZ
The stunning win that Mexico’s Andy Ruiz Jr earned over Anthony Joshua did not get him a corresponding pay.
According to The Sun of UK, Andy was really handicapped even though he might have produced one of the biggest upsets in heavyweight history his pay cheque was distinctly lightweight compared to Anthony Joshua’s.
Ruiz, the 25/1 underdog, is understood to have made only around £5million from the fight at New York’s iconic Madison Square Garden, while the loser, Anthony Joshua got £20m Joshua.
The gulf in the pay indicates the gulf in class between the two boxers boxers.
According to the newspaper, despite taking home Joshua’s three belts, Andy Ruiz was not even meant to be on the money list on Saturday night.
He took the fight with just five weeks’ notice after Joshua’s original opponent Jarrell Miller failed three drugs tests in the build-up.
