Uganda’s Ghanaian coach, Samuel Kwesi Fabin has tipped the Nigerian Golden Eaglets to win the on-going CAF U17 Nations Cup in Tanzania.
The Nigerian side play against Guinea in the semi-finals on Wednesday. The coach, known to be a renowned talent-hunter told CAFonline: “I think among other teams, Nigeria is the best and they can win the trophy.”
His team was eliminated by Nigeria at the group stage. Both teams played 1-1 draw in a match that Uganda needed to win to advance to the semi-finals and also pick a World Cup ticket.
“It has been amazing. We (Uganda) started the game and it’s unfortunate we couldn’t go beyond the group stage. In our match against Nigeria, we had chances to beat Nigeria but we didn’t capitalize on them. We took advantage of the lack of concentration in their defense to score the opener but we couldn’t defend it”, remarked the coach.
Nigeria’s Akinkunmi Amoo is one of the talents that the coach said he had spotted at the tournament. “A number of talents have emerged. I can single out Akinkunmi Amoo from Nigeria, Zito Luvumbo from Angola and Gavin Kizito from my team. “The challenge ahead is that we need to monitor them and help them to thrive to the higher level. We need to develop them.”
