SUPER EAGLES MAY PLAY BURKINA FASO, BENIN FOR AFCON BUILD-UP
With the sudden withdrawal of Ghana from a proposed friendly match with Nigeria, the Nigeria Football Federation is now looking in the direction of Burkina Faso and Benin Republic as possible replacement.
Ghana, it was gathered pulled out of a proposed friendly match for logistics reasons. The match is slated for Asaba in Nigeria while the team will be camped in Dubai, Asia to get their players accustomed to possible weather condition in Egypt during the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Black Stars would therefore not be able to fly down to Asaba and then return to Dubai to continue camping.
Benin could be a possible alternative on account of proximity and the fact that the Nigerian western neighbours are also preparing for the continental premier competition.
The proposed friendly match with Senegal has been confirmed, while Burkina Faso is also on the card, even though the 2013 runners-up did not make the cut for the enlarged 2019 edition.
Nigeria possibly want
largely West African oppositions to gauge the probable strength of Guinea, the
team touted to pose the greatest opposition to Nigeria at the group stage of
the competition.
Nigeria
will play its Africa Cup of Nations matches in Group B along Guinea, Madagascar
and Burundi.
