Super Eagles of Nigeria which had a poor start at the qualifying series of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations did not only end as the top team in Group E, its lead striker, Odion Ighalo also emerged as the continent’s overall top scorer.

The China’s Shanghai Shenhua striker had seven goals to beat Fiston Abdul Razak of Burundi who scored six.

Both strikers led their respective teams to the enlarged Africa Cup of Nations competition. Ighalo opened his scoring account in the away match with Seychelles and had a hattrick in the home match against Libya. In the away match, he scored two goals and wrapped it up with a penalty kick goal in Asaba on Friday. Sports Village Square recalls that Ighalo’s goal at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba is the first in an international match at the arena.
