NIGERIA NATIONAL COUNCIL OF SPORTS HOLDS EXTRA ORDINARY MEETING

The Extra-Ordinary Meeting of the National Council on Sports in Nigeria begins March 11th – 15th at Edo Heritage Hotel, Benin City. 

The Council meeting which holds on March 14 is the first since Edo state was given the right to host the 2020 National Sports Festival. The meeting will consider and adopt the report and recommendations of the Technical Session and will be flagged off by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung.


Preceding the Council meeting will be the Technical Session to be chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development Olusade Adesola on Thursday March 13, 2019. 


Top on the agenda is the review of the 19th National Sports Festival held in Abuja including the status of Beach Volleyball, Zonal eliminations for team sports, Sports for the next Festival, and medical guidelines.


Other issues to be discussed include the proposed date for the 20th National Sports Festival and an inspection of facilities which will take place a day before the Technical Session.

The Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, his Deputy Phillip Shuaibu, the President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee Habu Gumel, State Commissioners of Sports, Chairmen of States’ Sports Councils and State Directors of Sports are expected to attend.

The National Council of Sports, the highest policy making body for sports in Nigeria decides the rules and regulations as well as other logistics for the National Sports Festival.
