The crashing out of Real Madrid from the UEFA Champions League is a big delight to their Spanish rivals, FC Barcelona. Madrid got eliminated from three competitions in the course of just seven days

According to Spanish publication, Tribuna, Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu remarked that it was “one less strong rival” for his team.

Barcelona had days earlier beaten Real Madrid in the famed El Clasico before the Madrid side also crashed out of the Champions League making the week a bad one for the team.

“I saw the game and, look, one less strong rival in the Champions League, that’s good. It’s been a very dark week for them.”

Seven days, three home defeats, 8-1 agg score, all three competitions gone, one after the other; cup, league, European Cup, season over on 5 March, the day before their birthday, Barça now historically better in clásicos 96-95… probably the worst week Real Madrid have ever had.

Real Madrid has had a nightmare of a week, getting eliminated from three tournaments. And it was Bartomeu’s club that dealt the most damage to Blancos’ fortunes as Real Madrid crashed out of Copa del Rey with a 4-1 aggregate loss.

A few days after Barca extended the gap between the sides up to 12 points with the narrow La Liga win at the Bernabeu.

But it was Ajax that has been most ruthless with Solari’s team – 4-1 at Santiago are a hard loss to swallow, made even bitter by the fact that Los Blancos’ won the first leg, 2-1.
