Nigeria’s Flying Eagles crashed out of title contention on Wednesday after losing 3-4 on penalties to Mali after a 1-1 draw.

It will be Mali’s first ever final match since the competition began in 1991. The Malians had taken a late lead in the 78th minute through Mamadou Traoure

It was the first time in the competition that the Flying Eagles had conceded a goal. But they soon make amends when with four minutes to regulation time, Paschal Durugbor leveled up for Nigeria.

The extra time produced no goal leading to the lottery of penalty shootout which was last recorded in the competition in 2013 when Egypt beat Ghana 5-4 in the final.
