COTE D’IVOIRE CONCEDES 2021 AFCON TO CAMEROON, ACCEPTS 2023 EDITION

Hosting rights for the next three editions of the Africa Cup of Nations appear to have been settled as Cote d’Ivoire, original hosts for 2021, have now yielded to pressure and accepted to host 2023 edition instead.

That was the high point of the meeting CAF President, Ahmad had with Ivorian government officials. According to a media release by CAF, Ahmad confirmed Cameroon as 2021 hosts, Cote d’Ivoire as 2023 hosts while Guinea will be the venue for 2025 edition.

CAF confirmed that the Ivorian delegation that took part in the meeting was headed by the Minister of Sports Paulin Danho, Sidy Diallo president of Ivorian Football Federation(FIF), Sory Diabate 1st Vice President of FIF and Feh Kessé President of the local organising committee.

President Ahmad took the platform to explain to the Ivorian Head of State why it is in the best interest of Ivory Coast to host Afcon 2023.

The minister mentioned the huge effort and sacrifices Cameroon invested therefore deserve to host 2021.

Paulin Danho said “I received clear directives from my Head of State to work towards the fulfilment of Afcon 2023, bring peace in the divided local football and build a smooth relationship with the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Ahmad expressed his gratitude and thanks to the President of Cameroon Paul Biya, President Alpha Condé of Guinea, and President Alassane Ouattara of Cote d’Ivoire, the host of the day.
