Football fans in Akwa Ibom State will have the rare privilege of watching Nigeria Professional Football League match between Akwa United and El Kanemi Warriors free of charge courtesy of Governor Udom Emmanuel’s directive that gates at the Nest of champions be thrown wide open for fans to go and support the state team to victory on Sunday. 

The Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Monday Ebong Uko who confirmed the Governor’s directive concerning the Promise Keepers first home match of the season said the gesture is to encourage more fans and supporters to turn up and give the team the needed support. 

The Sports Commissioner further said that the gesture of the governor was not only commendable but was a true reflection of a leader who always has the welfare of his people in mind. 

Uko went further to urge the sports community in Akwa Ibom and supporters of Akwa United to take advantage of the governor’s magnanimity to go and cheer the club to victory. 

This will not be the first time sport enthusiasts in Akwa Ibom will be benefiting from Governor Emmanuel. In all the Super Eagles matches in Uyo, the governor has always subsidized on gate takings to make it affordable to the generality of the fans. 

Governor Udom Emmanuel who is a passionate sports fan, was Awarded Best Sports Governor of the Year 2017 and under his administration, Akwa United have won two Federation Cup titles and also played at the continental level. Last season, the Promise Keepers finished in second place behind leaders Lobi stars in the NPFL.
