‘Better late than never’ was the maxim that Nigeria’s declared champions, Lobi Stars employed to oust hard fighting Kenyan champions, Gor Mahia from the CAF Champions League on Saturday in Enugu. Thanks to two late goals that came less than 20 minutes to the end of the match.

What a cruel fate for the Kenyans who had obviously got into the game to hold a goalless draw or at worse, a lone goal defeat.

They held in gamely for 70 minutes before the ‘never say die’ spirit of Nigeria came into play. Lobi Stars who had entered into the match with a 3-1 deficit pulled a goal back in the 71st minute.

Two minutes into the regulation time, they got the second goal through Sikiru Alimi, which put scores at 2-0 and aggregate score line at 3-3. But the Nigerian side advanced on the away goal rule.
