Super Eagles’ skipper, Mikel Obi may have been causing divided attention for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the national leader of Nigeria’s ruling political party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), while the Nigerian footballer was with Chelsea.

Asiwaju Tinubu has never hidden his passion for the rival Manchester United. But when one of his favourite players is in the opposition, there was conflict of interest.

“Chelsea is not my club, but Mikel Obi is my club”, remarked the APC leader.

“I am a Man U fan to the core. Last weekend, I watched Chelsea and Liverpool with one eye, as I am always envious of Chelsea. But I sympathize with him (Mikel).

“Each time Mikel Obi was playing for Chelsea, there was no time I don’t keep an eye on him as he is a great talent.

“I will do everything to assist him achieve his new goals without considering our ill-feelings about Chelsea. But he has helped the club a lot.

When he was in Chelsea, I wish we beat then, but they often beat us! I will be following his exploits in next year’s Africa Cup of Nations.”
