AGAIN, UGANDA FRUSTRATE SUPER EAGLES AT HOME
As in previous encounters of both teams, Tuesday’s duel of Nigeria and Uganda was keenly contested with no winner and no vanquished as the two Cameroon 2019-bound sides played a goalless draw.
The newly commissioned Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba will therefore have to wait for some months to record its first goal in an international encounter. The Ugandans, as they had done before frustrated the Super Eagles as they did three years ago in Uyo, where they snatched a late winner and spoilt the party for Vincent Enyeama who was having his 100th international cap.
But Tuesday’s game lacked anxious moments as both sides appeared playing cautiously having three days earlier picked tickets to the Africa Cup of Nations.
The first half was devoid of goal moments although the Super Eagles threatened with Victor Osimhen and Samuel Chukwueze looking lively for the Super Eagles in attack. Osimhen came close to scoring but his headers sailed narrowly wide.
A better performance in the second half saw Nigeria laying siege on the goal of Uganda but failed to sufficiently trouble the Ugandan goalkeeper.
