DOUBLE CELEBRATION FOR NIGERIA’S BADMINTON CHIEFTAIN, ORBIH
President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN), Francis Orbih, was on Friday night named the winner of the Sports Administrator category of the annual Nigerian Sports Awards on Friday night.
Decked in his trademark bowler hat, Francis Orbih who stepped onto the stage with his wife announced that the day was also his 22nd wedding anniversary. What a double celebration it turned out for the man who within a year’s tenure has brought badminton from obscurity into limelight.
He won in a packed field that also had the NFF President, Amajuoritse Pinnick, Ahmed Musa Kida of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, and Boye Oyerinde of the Nigeria Squash Federation.
Displaying a spirit of sportsmanship, Orbih invited the president of Nigeria Squash Federation to join him on the podium as he reeled out efforts of the duo to get sponsorship for their lesser-known sports federation in a saturated corporate environment that tilts more to football and athletics.
Orbih, who within the short tenure has attracted foreign interest in Nigeria’s badminton especially from the lead badminton nation, China and also getting the federation very active through constant tournaments, appealed to corporate Nigeria to come to the aid of badminton.
