The absence of celebrated Super Eagles’ players in this weekend’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifying duel with Bafana Bafana is being celebrated in South Africa.

Nigeria will have to prosecute the away tie without key players like skipper Mikel Obi, Onazi Ogenyi and the qualifying series’ lead scorer, Odion Ighalo.

They are all nursing one form of injury or the other as Nigeria approaches the penultimate match that leads to possible qualification for Africa’s premier competition for the first time in six years.

South Africa’s publication, Sowetan reports thus: “Nigeria’s build-up to their African Nations Cup clash with Bafana Bafana later this month has been hit by accusations and denials over the make-up of coach Gernot Rohr’s squad for the fixture at FNB Stadium.”

Another newspaper, The Star headlines its story: Massive blow’ for Nigeria as top striker Ighalo ruled out of Bafana Bafana clash”.
