AFTER VISIT TO PRESIDENT BIYA, CAF PRESIDENT, AHMAD REAFFIRMS’ CAMEROON’S AFCON HOSTING RIGHTS
Confederation of African Football, CAF, has doused the speculations of striping Cameroon of the hosting rights of 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
Speculations of transferring the competition to another country gained ground at the weekend when CAF issued a release during its extraordinary General Assembly in Egypt suggesting that Cameroon was not ready for the competition.
But in a press report on Wednesday of CAF’s website, the continental body reaffirmed the rights of Cameroon.
The change of tone is the result of the visit of CAF President, Ahmad to President Paul Biya on Tuesday.
The official website of the presidency in Cameroon, www.prc.cm also confirmed the report.
Speaking to the press after the high level discussion in which Cameroon’s football icon, Samuel Eto’o also attended Ahmad debunked rumours that CAF would withdraw the hosting rights from Cameroon. He said CAF has never envisaged such a scenario. Normally, it is the host country that has the final say, he stated.
