WORLD PARA POWERLIFTING COMPETITION, NIGERIA 2019 MASCOT AND LOGO LAUNCH
The public unveiling of the mascot and logo of the 2019 World Para Powerlifting Championships to be hosted in Lagos will be done on October 9.
According to a media statement by Taye Ige, the head of the media committee of the championship, this is one of the decisions taken by the Main Organising Committee (MOC) of the event.
The MOC is headed by Dr. Kweku Tandoh, the chairman of Lagos State Sports Commission who also presided over the meeting held on Friday.
He also pointed out that a Local Organizing Committee (LOC) will be set up as the MOC will only provide the necessary guidelines, for the running of the competition which will run from 28 to 30 January 2019 at the Lagos Oriental Hotel in Lagos.
According to the media release, Dr. Tandoh identified procurement of equipment to be used by the athletes during the Games, Team Nigeria preparation and participation, transportation, international participants logistics and television production and broadcast/ transmission of the event across the world as areas that the Federal Government would be expected to take care of.
Lagos, the host city, would take responsibility for venues, accommodation intra-city transport, medicals, security, ceremonials, protocol and related logistics.
The MOC called for timely approval and release of funds by the Federal Government so that the running of operation and the overall success of the Games can be assured.
Queen Uboh, President, Para Powerlifting Federation of Nigeria, said even though a budget had been submitted to the Presidency and the Ministry of Sports respectively, approval was still being expected.
Dr. Yemi Usikaye represented the Ministry of Sports’ Permanent Secretary, Olusade Adesola on the MOC.
He was expected to convey the requests to the ministry. Uboh also called on corporate Nigeria to come to the aid of the Organisers in their quest to put up a Championship worthy to be celebrated.
She praised FrieslandCampina WAMCO, makers of Peak Milk, who have already signed up on the Project, committing to the purchase of a wheelchair-accessible van.
