STALEMATE ALMOST IN NORTH CENTRAL ELECTION INTO NFA BOARD
BY ALIYU NASIR KANKARA IN KATSINA.
Hot favourites, Ahmed Yusuf aka Fresh cried after a hard won victory in what was initially anticipated to be a ‘walk in the park’ for him. A mild drama ensued in the North West election into NFF board. With three contestants, Ahmed Yusuf aka Fresh, polled 16 and is followed by Sulaiman Kwande who has 13 while the third contestant, Busari Ishola had 10.
Mild drama…
The rule says the winner must have 51%, which ordinarily means a simple majority if there were just two contestants. Now there were three.
The electoral body approached the CAF and FIFA Observers for advice. They were told that since two people are eligible to be on board, the first two win while the third is eliminated. Then a minor scuffle ensued and the police had to step in.
Later the electoral body decided that there will be a run-off election between Ahmed Yusuf and Sulaiman Kwande to decide the order of victory and a simple majority will be required. Ahmed Yusuf won the run-off, 22 votes to 21.
Another run-off is ongoing between Busari Ishola and Sulaiman Kwande. The winner will join Ahmed Yusuf as the North Central has two seats on the boad.
