ALIGNMENT AND REALIGNMENT GOING ON AS NFF ELECTION IS ABOUT TO START
BY ALIYU NASIR KANKARA IN KATSINA.
At the moment, the hall where the election into the next cycle of Nigeria football administrator will hold is still empty as candidates and their supporters are outside to lobby for support.
Although the election into the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is on individual basis, Candidates are aligning so as to improve their electoral chances.
While former president, Aminu Maigari has Sunday Dele-Ajayi, the Ondo State FA chairman as his point man in the South West, incumbent, Amaju Pinnick relies on his trusted 1st Vice President, Seyi Akinwunmi who is also the Lagos FA boss.
While, Maigari and Pinnick go head-to-head for the top post, their allies, Sunday Dele-Ajayi and Seyi Akinwunmi are also contesting for the position of 1st Vice President.
Pinnick also appeared to have understanding with all, but one member of his current board. Only Sunday Dele-Ajayi seems not to be in the same camp with him.
Pinnick’s strongest ally in the North appears to be Ahmed Yusuf aka “Fresh”, the strongman from the North Central Zone. Maigari too is believed to have dug deeper than most had expected.
His campaign had been very quiet, but incisive. He is believed to have reached out to two very influential former governors in South.
According to a strong sports journalist, Wale Ajayi who is well grounded in NFF politics, Maigari “is a strong grass root politician who is enjoying strong sponsorship from a top senator from the North and a minister of the Federal Republic.
“He has done his homework perfectly and has the full support of the executive governor of his state, and former PDP chairman, Alhaji Muazu”.
