Nigeria on Tuesday defeated Liberia 2-1 at home in what will officially go down as a mere exhibition match. The encounter lost its value as a non official footballer, President George Weah played a part in the game before being substituted and eventually got his jersey number 14 retired by the Liberian national team.
What also robbed the match of its official status was the number of substitutions Nigeria made.
Seven substitutions were made. Henry Onyekuru launched Nigeria ahead early in the first half before Simeon Nwankwo doubled the lead taking Nigeria into a 2-0 lead at half time.
Liberia pulled a goal back late in the second half when Simi Ajayi touched the ball in the penalty box. Liberia converted the penalty.
