PIRATES LAY AMBUSH FOR SUPER EAGLES ON INDIAN OCEAN ISLANDS
BY KUNLE SOLAJA.
The Super Eagles encounter with Seychelles team, tagged Pirates will now hold on Saturday in Victoria, the capital city of the chain of islands of Seychelles on the Indian Ocean.
The match day 2 encounter of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers was initially believed to hold on Friday. But according to a press release from the NFF Media Department, the Seychelles Football Federation has confirmed the match for Saturday.
The NFF informed that Georges Bibi, the Chief Executive Officer/General Secretary of the Seychelles Football Federation, in a mail to NFF’s Director of Competitions, Ayobola Oyeyode, disclosed that the match will be played at the Stade Linite on the Mahe Island.
The match kicks off at 4.30pm local time which is 1.30pm in Nigeria.
Seychelles is a chain of 115 islands on the Indian Ocean on the western part of the warm water Indian Ocean. Geographically, it called archipelago.
The total population of Seychelles, almost like that of Iceland that Nigeria faced at the World Cup, is 100,000 people.
Both Nigeria and Seychelles are without any point after the match day 1 matches. Seychelles lost 5-1 away to Libya leaving only the Super Eagle as the only one of the four teams in Group E without scoring.
Super Eagles lost 0-2 at home to South Africa last year June. Those results make Libya as the current group leaders owing to goal superiority to South Africa’s while Nigeria places third for having less goal-deficit to that of Seychelles.
