YELLOW CARDS DEPLETE FALCONETS’ ARSENAL AHEAD OF CLASH WITH SPAIN

BY KUNLE SOLAJA.

When the Nigeria Falconets file out to face Spain at Stade Guy-Priou in Conceameau in Thursday’s quarter finals of the U-20 Women’s World Cup, the squad will be without two of their regular players.

They are Opeyemi Sunday and Gift Monday. It is the second time in four matches of the series that Gift Monday is suspended in the series.

She missed the opening match with Germany on account of the double caution and red card she got in the last continental qualifying match with South Africa last year. Upon returning for the encounter with Haiti, Gift was barely three minutes in the match before she got a yellow card.

Gift Monday on Monday battles with China Jaixing Dou. She will miss Thursday’s  match with Spain.

In Monday’s match with China, she again got a second card which makes her ineligible in the quarter final match with Spain. The same applies to Opeyemi Sunday who also go cautioned in the 58th minute of Monday’s match with China.

She had earlier gotten a yellow card in Thursday’s game with Haiti.

Adebisi Saheed who was on the bench in Monday’s match and Grace Igboamalu are other Nigerians still on disciplinary list.

They may miss the semi finals if Nigeria qualifies and they are cautioned on Thursday.
