AMERICA’S MATTHEW CONGER TO REFEREE ‘BATTLE OF VOLGOGRAD’

An American residing in New Zealand, Matthew Conger, will be in charge when Nigeria faces Iceland in a potentially fierce battle to cross the group stage of Russia 2018 World Cup.

Volgograd, formerly called Stalingrad, was the battleground of the bloodliest warfare waged in modern era when an estimated two million died during the World War II in 1943.

Conger has been assigned the match along with compatriot, Simon Lount as first assistant referee and Tevita Makasini of Tonga as the second assistant referee.

Conger, a teacher by profession, referees in the Australian A-League and the New Zealand football championship.
