NIGERIA BADMINTON TEAM HEADS TO ABIDJAN FOR THE 2018 COTE D’IVOIRE INTERNATIONAL BADMINTON CHAMPIONSHIP

The Nigeria Badminton team departs for Abidjan to attend the Cote d’Ivoire International Badminton Championship to serve off its West African Badminton circuit.

This is to be followed by the Ghana International where the Nigerian team will be larger and concluded with the Lagos International Badminton Classics.

The team which comprised of nine players were in high spirit as they departed Lagos yesterday.  Team Nigeria is making a return to the tournament which it emerged overall winner in the 2017 edition.

The President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria, Francis Orbih appreciated the support of the Lagos State Government for providing a bus and driver for the team.

He also said paucity of funds prevented the Federation from sending a larger team, but he is confident that the players in the team are more than capable of ensuring the country retains its crown. He added that this tournament is the first major test for the players that attended the training tour in Indonesia.

National Head Coach, Ben Orakpo and his assistant George Shitta will be in charge of the team. The male players that made the trip team include: Clement Korobakpo, Anu Opeyori, Godwin Olofua, Habib Bello, Usman Isiaq and Daniel Philip.  The three female players are Dorcas Adesokan, Funke Ayenugba and Ruth Chinyere.

The delegation is led by the Lagos State Badminton Association Secretary Samson Akapo as the tournament serves off on Wednesday the 20th of June 2018.
