A sports professor from China, Zhou Zhihu, of Beijing Sports University will soon visit Nigeria to conduct a two-month coaching clinic for Nigerian badminton players and coaches. This is a fallout from a recent visit to China by the president of the Nigeria Badminton Federation (BFN), Frank Orbih.

According to the BFN boss, an agreement was signed to that effect. Investigation by www.sportsvillagesquare.com reveals that China is by far the top performing country in the world in the Badminton World Championships which began in 1977 as IBF World Championships.

The agreement with the Chinese will enable some Nigerian players to attend and make use of the training camp at the Beijing Sports University.  The mixed double pair of Eneoji Abah and Peace Orji were offered sponsorship to attend the world championship in Nanjing China in July and August. Also ongoing is a discussion with Shandong Taishan Sports Equipment Company Limited for sponsorship of the Nigerian team to feature in international championships for a year.

This, according to the BFN president will help in putting Nigerian players in shape for the ALL Africa Senior Badminton Championship next April which the country has gotten a provisional approval to host.

In addition to the visit by the Chinese sports professor, Orbih revealed to www.sportsvillagesquare.com that his trip to China has attracted to Nigeria other benefits. The BFN will benefit from the general Chinese programme, the One Belt and One Road Initiative (OBOR).

It is a bid that China is using to connect to other parts of the world. In this regard, the Chinese will assist with the process of funding of construction of a badminton gymnasium to accommodate at least 10 courts, hostel, offices and shops in Nigeria.

Also, Orbih informed that the China-Africa Handicap International Alliance agreed to support para-badminton in Nigeria.
