SUPER EAGLES TO RIDE ON ‘THE WINGS OF AFRICAN PRIDE’ IN RUSSIA

Published

The slogan, ‘The Wings of African Pride’ will adorn the Super Eagles’ team buses at each of their match venues in Russia. This is sequel to the FIFA’s announcement of slogans that will be on the buses of the 32 teams featuring at the World Cup.

Online voters chose the slogan for Nigeria. That of hosts, Russia is: “Play with an open heart”. That entry won against “Russian bears are on their way to victory” and “Together and with our whole hearts we are following the dream.”

The slogans will feature on the buses of the competing teams as they travel across the country during the tournament, which will take place in 11 Russian host cities from June 14 to July 15.

Three Arab countries from Africa had their slogans in both Arabic and English. That of Egypt for instance is “لما نقول الفراعنة الدنيا تقوم تسمعنا (When you say pharaohs, the world must get up and listen).

Morocco has ‘اسود الاطلس فخر المغرب (The Atlas Lions, pride of Morocco)” while Tunisia’s slogan is: “يا روسيا جاوك النسور. يد وحدة ملاعبية و جمهور (Russia here comes the eagles hand in hand players and fans)”.

Senegal’s slogan is in French: “IMPOSSIBLE N’EST PAS SÉNÉGALAIS (Impossible is not Senegalese)”.

Other notable selections include Australia’s rousing “BE BRAVE, BE BOLD, SOCCEROOS IN GREEN AND GOLD” and Uruguay’s poetic “The sun shines in Russia, the sky is all light blue.”
