ARGENTINA’S WORLD CUP LIST: SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES WITH 2014 PROVISIONAL LIST

Published

on

Current Argentina boss, Jorge Sampaoli and the coach of the 2014 World Cup squad, Alejandro Sabella have several similarities in the lists that both presented before each World Cup.

Sabella, in 2014, months before the World Cup, gave a list of 30 players who were preparing to travel to Brazil. Although they are five players less than those that Sampaoli did, several players repeat from one World Cup event to another.

Goalkeepers:

The only one that repeats is Sergio Romero. While Sabella had opted for Mariano Andújar and Agustín Orión, Sampa did his thing with Wilfredo Caballero, Nahuel Guzmán and Franco Armani.

Marcos Rojo, Nicolás Otamendi, Gabriel Mercado and Javier Mascherano are those who are on both lists. Pablo Zabaleta, Ezequiel Garay, Federico Fernandez, Hugo Campagnaro, Jose Basanta, Lisandro Lopez and Martin Demichelis have lost their place during the replacement of players.

Midfielders

Ever Banega, Lucas Biglia, Ángel Di María and Enzo Pérez have remained since the last World Cup. Fernando Gago, Maxi Rodriguez, Augusto Fernandez, José Sosa, Ricardo Álvarez and Fabián Rinaudo were selected by Pachorra but are not in sight to go to Russia.

Strikers

Lionel Messi, Sergio Agüero and Gonzalo Higuaín will repeat the call. In 2014 were part of Ezequiel Lavezzi, Rodrigo Palacio and Franco Di Santo, but this time they will be Paulo Dybala, Mauro Icardi, Lautaro Martinez and Cristian Pavón.
