Fanny Amun whose Golden Eaglets side projected Nwankwo Kanu into limelight, has hailed the May 22 World Cup Seminar being packaged by The Sun Publishing Limited. Amun, who is also a former General Secretary  of the Nigeria Football Federation remarked that the seminar is timely as it will further generate the necessary support and awareness for the Nigerian side that is making a sixth appearance at the global football festival.

He remarked that the efforts of The Sun Publishing Limited is akin to what can be likened to communication for development.

“This is what the media should be doing.  I’m impressed with this.  It will motivate the country to do well in Russia. I will be there in Port Harcourt to be part of the event,”  remarked Coach Amun who is  popularly called ‘Transformer’ for the role he played in transforming hitherto latent talents of the likes of Kanu, Celestine Babayaro and Wilson Oruma into global stars following their exploits at the 1993 U-16 World Tournament.

The Nigerian side emerged victorious, winning the trophy for the second time after that of 1985.

Amun was an assistant to the Serbian Velibor Milutinovic who guided the Super Eagles at the France ’98 and as almost a sole administrator at the helms in the troubled days of the then NFA, he was responsible for the appointment of the late Yemi Tella who led Nigeria to win the U-17 World Cup for the third time in 2007.
