Former Super Eagles’ striker, Julius Aghahowa, has restated that Mikel Obi and Victor Moses will be the pivot of Nigeria’s possible good run at the Russia 2018 World Cup. The former striker whose solitary goal  in the 2002 World Cup was often regarded as the best in Group F which comprised of Nigeria, Argentina, England and Sweden.

Aghahowa told www.sportsvillagesquare.com that the impact of Moses and Mikel will go a long way in breaking the round of 16 barrier.

“Nigeria is a great nation when it comes to football. Although we lost our last international friendly game against Serbia, but I still believe the team got what it takes to break jinx in Russia.

“We have gotten great and experienced players like John Obi Mikel and Victor Moses. They can be compared with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and host of other stars who can single-handedly lift their various teams.

“We are having a young squad this time around. It makes me remember my days during the 2002 FIFA World Cup. We were all young and the impact of experienced players like Jay Jay Okocha and Nwankwo Kanu really helped us built confidence.

“I see Mikel, Moses doing same in building the players’ confidence in Russia and I think with this, we can get to some certain stage.

“The Nigeria Football Federation has also done all the needful things that can boost the players’ morale. I give them kudos for organizing some world class friendly matches for the team, of which we have defeated Argentina and Poland, I urge them to keep the ball rolling till the World Cup officially kicks off in Russia,” he stated.
