Real Madrid’s Morata Off to AC Milan for $80.3M Deal

It is becoming increasingly clear that Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata is leaving for AC Milan on a €70-million ($80.3 million) deal. ScoreMedia, quoting the popular Italian sports publication, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that both clubs are close to an agreement. AC Milan are reportedly prepared to offer the Spanish striker €10 million ($11.5 million) a season, which would apparently exceed Chelsea’s economic proposal.
Those figures represent an increase from the Italian newspaper’s initial report in May, when it was claimed that Morata had agreed to a €60-million ($68.8 million) move with the promise of earning €7.5 million ($8.6 million) per season.
Manchester United’s interest in the 24-year-old derailed Milan’s pursuit, but the Red Devils have again cleared the way after securing the services of Romelu Lukaku.
Sporting director Massimiliano Mirabelli confirmed to media Monday that Milan has been targeting Morata “right from the start,” but added he would arrive “only on our conditions.”
Talks over Morata began just before Milan embarked on a massive spending spree.
