The last time Venus Williams was in the finals at Wimbledon, it was 2009, and she lost to her sister, Serena.
Thursday, she got to the final for the first time since the 2009 final with her sister.
Afterward, she joked about how it’s usually Serena in the finals and will have to ask the seven-time Wimbledon champion for some pointers.
But emotionally, she also said she misses her sister “terribly,” as Serena is late in her pregnancy and not traveling.
“Serena’s always in my corner and, you know, usually it’s her in these finals, so I’m trying my best to represent Williams as best as I can. …
“I missed her so much before this match, and I was like, I just wish she was here, and I was like, I wish she could do this for me, but I was like no, this time you have to do it for yourself.”
