University of Ilorin in Nigeria will host another edition of Nigeria’s National Youth Games, a top official of the country’s Ministry of Youth and Sports has said. The Director of Grassroot Sports Development at the ministry, Dr. Ademola Are remarked that the ministry was ready to host the 2017 National Youth Games.

He said that all hands were on deck to ensure that the University of Ilorin hosts another successful one after hosting the previous edition.

“We are ready, as the ministry had a meeting with the University of Ilorin Management to ensure that all hands are on deck to ensure that we have another successful game this year,” Ademola stated.

“The ministry is ready and all the states are very enthusiastic about the Youth Games, as it’s the only opportunity the children have to exhibit their God-given talents in sport.

“The states have started sending in their registration online to the ministry.” Ademola also insists that the sport ministry is looking at correcting some of the flaws noticed in the last edition.

“We are looking at the challenge we faced last year so that we can improve upon them this year, especially in the area of technical officials.”

The National Youth Games is expected to provide the opportunities for the selection of athletes who will represent Nigeria at the World Youth Games.
