The Nigerian National Sports Federations Elections/Appeal Committee has nullified some of the elections that took place on June 13 and ordered by elections to hold next week Saturday.
The sports federations involved include athletics, gymnastics, rugby, judo, table tennis and taekwondo. Sports Village Square gathered from the reports of the appeal committee that it received 21 petitions from 11 national sports federations.
The election of Shehu Ibrahim Gusau as president of the Athletic Federation of Nigeria was nullified as a candidate from North West from where he emerged, Charles Musa Yayock, was adjudged wrongfully disqualified. The Committee directs a fresh election at both the North West and National.
Also, two contestants that were adjudged wrongly removed were reinstated. They are Brown Ebewele as the representative of coaches/technical association and Rosa Collins.
Former Olympian, Charity Opara Asonze who was also disqualified on the Election Day as the representative of South East Zone will now feature in a bye election.
The immediate past president of the AFN, Solomon Ogba has also made a return to the board, replacing Hameed Adio as the philanthropist/sponsor/Ex-officio member.
Journalist, Olukayode Thomas who originally entered into the presidential race but was disqualified on the day of election did not get any remedy as one of the members informed Sports Village Square that the candidate did not appeal.
The election to the board of the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation has also been rescheduled for Friday July 7. The election did not hold on June 13 when that of 30 other sports federations took place.
In gymnastic, the three-man electoral panel wrote a damning report on the election which made the appeal committee to nullify all the elections conducted in respect of the Gymnastic Federation of Nigeria both at the zonal, vice presidential and presidential levels.
“Consequently all positions purportedly filled under this election are nullified, Fresh election should be conducted”.
