CAF Confederation Cup
KCCA Pulls Rivers United Down
Nigeria’s Rivers United are resting at the bottom of the Group A of the CAF Confederation Cup. No thanks to the horrible defending that left a Kampala City Council attacker unmarked to unleash a rocket-like shot, giving his side a deserved 2-1 win.
What a turnaround! The Ugandans moved from the bottom of the table to the second having amassed six points from three matches. Rivers United are pulled to the bottom and must follow the steps of other teams in the group by winning the next home match which is a reversed fixtures of that of this weekend.
The Ugandans went ahead in the 15th minute through Derrick Nsibambi before Bolaji Sarkin volleyed Rivers United back into the game. Score line at half time was 1-1. In the second half, Rivers United opted for defensive tactics and were constantly under severe pressure.
Under such situation, the Ugandans made great profits with long passes. In the 71st minute, Derrick Nsibambi got a long range shot and had enough time to control it before hitting the roof of the Rivers United net to achieve a brace.
Both teams meet in the reversed fixture on June 20. Earlier on Friday, Morocco’s FUS beat Club Africain 2-1 in added time to go to the top of the log.
