Former Super Eagles defender and rescue-mission coach at Sunshine Stars, Austin Eguavoen, has applauded the growing form of Nigeria’s KAA Gent of Belgium defender, William Troost-Ekong.

Eguavoen told Sports Village Square in Ibadan last weekend that the central defender is a perfect successor to the Super Eagles’ retired skipper, Joseph Yobo.

“The Super Eagles’ defence is now in good shape”, Eguavoen told Sports Village Square.

“The defence line-up has been fantastic due to the impact of Ekong- Thrust. He has done well in coordinating the team defence line in recent games.

“He has filled in the space of former captain, Joseph Yobo, and based on form I see the Super Eagles winning Saturday’s match with South Africa”, said Eguavoen whose first foreign club was also KAA Gent which Ekong-Thrust is currently featuring for.

The former Super Eagles handler sees a bright future for the present set of Super Eagles.

“The team is full of youngsters who are willing to play and make names. All what the team needs is love and support from the fans and by doing this, I see us grabbing the Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup tickets.”
