Ronaldo, Real Madrid Make Goal Record

The 20th minute goal that Cristiano Ronaldo scored to put Real Madrid ahead in Saturday’s Champions League final match with Juventus has set new marks for both the player and his club. The goal has made Ronaldo to settle a personal score with his arch La Liga rival, Lionel Messi as both now have 11 goals in this year’s competition to be joint top scorers.

Sports Village Square recalls that Ronaldo’s four-year reign as UEFA Champions League season top scorer looked over going into the quarter-finals, but now he needs just one goal in Cardiff to catch up with Messi.

The five goals he scored in the quarter finals matches against Bayern Munich and the three goals at home against city rivals, Atletico Madrid in the semi finals put Ronaldo back in contention.

Besides, it is a milestone for Real Madrid as the club has become the first to reach the 500 goal mark in UEFA Champions League.

The next ranked club in terms of cumulative goals in the UEFA Champions League is FC Barcelona which has 459. The third is Bayern Munich which has 415 goals.  Juventus, this year’s finalists are sixth with 263 goals.

Madrid’s goals have come against 57 different clubs. Analysis of the 500 goals that Real Madrid have scored so far indicates that Germany’s Bayern Munich have been the most generous goal-donor to Real Madrid. They conceded a whooping 30 goals.

The Germans are jointly followed by Ajax Amsterdam and Turkey’s Galatasaray which conceded 20 goals each to Real Madrid.
