CAF Confederation Cup: FUS’ Win, a Lifeline for Rivers United

Nigeria’s representatives in the CAF Confederation Cup, Rivers United, have the opportunity of climbing at least to the second position in Group A if they pick at least a point in their away encounter with Kampala City Council Authority of Uganda in this Saturday encounter.
The Nigerian side is currently third. But with the last minute goal that FUS of Morocco got in Friday night cash with visiting Tunisian side, Club Africain means that Rivers United will climb to the second position should the team pick a point go get a total of four.
But an unlikely 4-0 win will get the club to the summit of the group in which every club has been picking maximum points at home. Rivers United faces Kampala City Council at the Phillip Omondi Stadium, Kampala.
The stadium is named after a late Uganda striker whose winning goal eliminated Nigeria, 2-1, in the semi finals of the 1978 Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana.
The player went on to emerge the top scorer at the tournament.
Incidentally, that was Uganda’s last outing in the continental fiesta until the 2017 edition. He died in April 1999.
