Ronaldo Needs a Goal to Match Messi in Champions League

FC Barcelona’s Lionel Messi is certainly not a figure in Saturday’s UEFA Champions League final, but his name has a way of resonating in almost every football discourse where goal attainment is focal point.

As Ronaldo files out with Real Madrid in the Champions League game with Juventus, he will be thinking of how he will score at least a goal, not just to aid Real Madrid, but also to settle a personal score with his La Liga arch rival, Lionel Messi.

Sports Village Square recalls that Ronaldo’s four-year reign as UEFA Champions League season top scorer looked over going into the quarter-finals, but now he needs just one goal in Cardiff to catch up with Messi.

The five goals he scored in the quarter finals matches against Bayern Munich and the three goals at home against city rivals, Atletico Madrid in the semi finals put Ronaldo back in contention.

He now needs just one in the final against Juventus in Cardiff to match the 11-goal haul of Barcelona’s Lionel Messi.
