Pogba Given Compassionate Leave for Father’s Funeral
Paul Pogba missed out in the 0-0 draw Manchester United had with Southampton on Wednesday on account of compassionate leave he was given for his father’s funeral.
Sports Village Square gathered from Omnisport that it was for the same reason that Pogba also missed out in the 2-1 defeat last Sunday at Tottenham Hotspur. The player’s father’s funeral took place in France.
“I don’t think Paul has conditions to play, we let him be completely free when he’s ready to be back’, Mourinho was quoted to have said while also expressing his frustration at Manchester United’s congested fixtures.
The club still have two Premier League matches to fulfil before next Wednesday’s Europa League final against Ajax, whose domestic season has already finished.
But despite the games coming thick and fast, Mourinho says it would be unwise to field so many inexperienced players in their remaining Premier League games.
United’s last hope of qualifying for the Champions League is by winning their final against Ajax after a four-match winless league run has left them sixth and seven points adrift of Manchester City in fourth.
