Legendary former Nigerian striker, Segun Odegbami has urged fast rising Winfred Ndidi to keep increasing his pace. Ndidi was on the score sheet for Leicester City at the weekend in the 3-0 defeat of Watford.
It was the midfielder’s second goal in the English Premier League. Odegbami, in a telephone conversation with Sports Village Square, advised Ndidi to keep improving and get more focused for the tasks ahead.
The former dashing right winger remarked that Ndidi is still ‘work in progress’ when compared with the other regular Super Eagles’ players jostling for recall for next month’s fixture with South Africa.
“Ndidi is a good player. I mean for him to have featured in several occasion for the Super Eagles has shown how great he is. But I still see him as an upcoming and future star compared to the senior boys.
Although he scored in his last game while representing the EPL defending champion, but he still need to step up his game so as to rub shoulders with his senior colleagues in current Eagles team.”
“Hyping him based on a single goal won’t help him. Anyone can score in a football game. I am sure he is still have more to learn.”
In a similar vein, “Mathematical Odegbami” as he was fondly called in his playing days, kept mute on his opinion about Ndidi making Coach Gernot Rohr final list for next month AFCON qualifier encounter.
“I have nothing to say about his inclusion on Rohr list. The coach knows best and who am I to dictate for him.”
The 20 year old has been involved in the last five matches contested by the super Eagles, and started the World Cup qualifier against Zambia and the recent friendly with Senegal.
