It’s Joshua by Knock Out!
Nigerian-born British boxer, Anthony Joshua, on Saturday night became the latest boxing sensation. At a packed Wembley arena, he secured an 11th round knockout of Wladimir Klitschko in a celebrated world heavy weight title fight.
The 27 year old boxer, whose roots is traceable to Sagamu in the Remo Division of Ogun State, South West Nigeria; Joshua secured a stunning victory against the 41-year-old Ukrainian to win the WBA and IBO belts to add to his IBF strap.
He did it sensationally as the over 90,000 spectators at the Wembley were kept on their feet throughout the thrilling fight. Great Joshua! He has proved he is a master of knockouts as he took his record to 19-0 with all the victories by stoppage.
The defining moment of the bout, watched via television in well set out viewing centre in Sagamu, was in the 11th round when Joshua landed a huge right uppercut that staggered Wladimir Klitschko. The Ukrainian was down and out!
The referee brought a halt to the punishment and Anthony Joshua was crowned IBO, IBF and WBA heavyweight champion.
Before then, the Ukrainian was knocked to the canvas twice in the 11th round. Much earlier was that of the fifth round which Wladimir Klitschko replied with a flooring of Joshua in the sixth round.
