With contentious issues apparently resolved, the Nigeria Ministry of Sports has proposed May 30 as possible date for the elections into the various boards of the sports federations in the country.

The date appears not to be definitive as a press release from the Senior Assistant on Media to the sports minister, Nneka Nkem Anibeze remarked that the elections “will tentatively hold on May 30, 2017”.

The amended guidelines released at the weekend and co- signed by the acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Abdulrasaq Salau and the Secretary General of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, Tunde Popoola, state that a congress for the election of Zonal Representatives, Vice Presidents and National Federations Presidents will also hold same day in Abuja.

The national federations have until April 27, 2017 to set up their electoral committees while the sale of nomination forms begins on May 2. Deadline for submission of forms is May 9, 2017.
