Rivers United May Face Zambia’s Zesco United

Ahead of Wednesday draw for the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup, Rivers United are unseeded and are put in Pot 2.There are eight teams in that pot. The other eight are seeded based on their past performances in CAF competitions. The ranking is based on clubs’ performances on the continent in the past five years. Three points are allotted for win, one point for draw and no point for lost matches.

Those in Port 1 in order of seeding are: TP Mazembe of DR Congo (58 points) CS Sfaxien of Tunisia (21 points), Zesco United of Zambia (15 points), FUS Rabat of Morocco (12 points), Smouha of Egypt (4 points) and Recreativo do Libolo of Angola (2 points).

The duo of MC Alger of Algeria and CF Mounana of Gabon are seeded but had no point.

With Rivers United in the Pot 2 for the unseeded clubs are the two South African clubs namely Platinum Stars and SuperSport United. Joining them are Al-Hilal Al-Ubayyid of Sudan, Horoya of Guinea, Mbane Swallows of Swaziland, Club Africain of Tunisia and Kampala City Council Authority of Uganda.

With the seeding, there is possibility of Rivers United facing Zambia’s Zesco United, the conquerors of Enugu Rangers. The first set of matches will be played on May 12.
