Shooting Stars Pay the Penalties
BY JUBRIL AROWOLO.
Shooting Stars bold attempt at securing first victory on the road crashed following the 2-1 loss to FC IfeanyiUbah which was saved from a possible home loss by converting two penalty kick awards.
Shooting Stars had shot into the lead in the 21st minute when Sunday Faleye was freed with a pass from Tolulope Olaifa. The former dribbled his way past the tall FC IfeanyiUbah defenders, before rounding off Ikechukwu Ezenwa in the goal.
From then on, it was a barrage of Ifeanyi Unah attack, seeking for an equalizer. Shooting Stars goalkeeper Charles Tambe was rock solid with some breath-taking saves.
Tony Msonter hit a volley which almost resulted in an equalizer but is deflected to the hands of Tambe. On 32nd minute, Ayobami Junior entered the referee’s book for poking a finger into Valentine Nwabili’s eye.
After spirited attacking efforts, IfeanyiUbah’s chance came in the 55th minute when Olabisi Samuel fouled Seka Pascal. To compound the situation for the Shooting Stars, Ayobami Junior was expelled. Godwin Obaje did not miss from the penalty spot as he cleverly sent Goalkeeper Tambe to a wrong direction.
The home boys started pilling pressure but Shooting Stars got their fair chance of attacking moves as a nice combination between Olaifa, Bola and Faleye was properly curtailed.
On the 83rd minute, another penalty was awarded to the home side on account of ball handling.
Obaje once again stepped up and scored the second goal.
