South Africa’s Coaching Woes Continue
Super Eagles’ first opponent in the qualifying series for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, Bafana Bafana, is still a troubled side. It had remained without a head coach since the sacking of Ephraim ‘Shakes’ Mashaba in December.
As at the weekend, a desperate effort by the South African Football Association, SAFA, to negotiate with SuperSports United coach, Stuart Baxter hit the rocks. According to South African blog, kickoff.com, the club recently granted SAFA permission to approach Baxter about the Bafana job, but the discussion has broken down.
Baxter confirmed that no headway was made in the discussion. :”What can I tell you? I think the SAFA hierarchy has been away. I think they have spoken to SuperSport and it’s an impasse that means I am not in the loop; I am (not) negotiating with anybody.
“I can’t tell you anymore. You may call SuperSport and speak to them. For me I am enjoying the game tonight (Sunday), I didn’t enjoy the game against Sundowns.”
