Abdu Maikaba, Akwa United coach, is optimistic of going into the second stanza of the Nigerian league in a comfortable position on the log. As the half time approaches, Akwa United are fifth on the log.

The team this Wednesday face the front runners and miracle workers, the Mountain of Fire and Miracle in a clash that could decide if Akwa United will head into the home stretch among the top four.

The magnificent Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo has been a comfortable fortress for Akwa United.

Coach Maikaba said his players are well motivated ahead of the game and maintained that his target on Wednesday will be to claim the maximum three points.

“We set a target at the beginning of the season. Although we started badly, but by the grace of God we are now fifth on the table.

We are impressed with the way we are playing at the moment but we know that the job is not done yet.

“Our match against MFM is a must win and the three points will take us to a very good position as we will be going into the mid-season break. We have to keep winning our matches both home and away so as to be able to achieve our target,” remarked Maikaba.

A win for the Promise Keepers will see them moved up to fourth position on the log.

The Uyo based team who are unbeaten at home this season defeated Kano Pillars away from home in their last away game. Akwa United and MFM have met twice in the NPFL with one win apiece.
