The bowel of the sumptuous Godswill Akpabio Stadium is expected to be filled to the brim when the Super Eagles take on Libya in Saturday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifying duel.

The Super Eagles who have literally adopted the Uyo stadium as their nest will not be lacking in crowd support as the Akwa Ibom State governor, Emmanuel Udom has subsidized the ticket prices for the match.

Nigeria needs a win to overtake the table-topping Libyan side and boost the chances of qualifying for the African premier football competition for the first time since 2013.

Tickets prices have been slashed by 50 per cent, and fans will have to pay as low as N500 only to watch the crucial game from the popular stands. The normal ticket price for that part of the all-covered and comfortable seated section of the arena is N1,000.

With N500, fans can watch the match from the popular stand.

Prices for tickets at the VIP section is now put at a thousand Naira which represents a 50% reduction from the normal price.

According to the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Sports, Elder Paul Bassey, an elder statesman in sports journalism, the tickets will be available for sale later in the week.

Elder Bassey explained that the Governor’s gesture is aimed at encouraging many fans to come and cheer the Africa Cup of Nations’ honour-hungry Super Eagles to an emphatic victory.

“Football fans around the world usually pay huge amounts of money as gate fees to watch international games of this standard, but here in Akwa Ibom,  His Excellency Governor Udom Emmanuel has graciously subsidized the ticket price to five hundred naira for popular stands tickets and one thousand naira for VIP tickets.

“Governor Emmanuel is a passionate sports lover and he has demonstrated it in the huge investments he has made in sports development in the state.

“His gesture of subsidizing the prices of tickets for the match is to ensure more fans turn up to watch the game live while supporting the senior national team to victory on Saturday” said Elder Bassey.

Libya are top of the group with four points, same as South Africa but with superior goal difference. The Super Eagles are third on the log with three points from two games and they need to win on Saturday to have any real chance of making it to AFCON 2019 in Cameroon.
