Depay Takes Swipe At Mourinho
Memphis Depay has aimed a sly dig at Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho following the latter’s decision to sell the Dutchman to Lyon.
The winger has sprung to life since swapping Old Trafford for Parc Olympique Lyonnais, scoring five times in nine Ligue 1 outings for the French side, including one stellar strike from the half-way line.
Memphis’ arrival at Manchester United was much publicised given the 23-year-old’s reputation at the time, having won the Eredivisie with PSV and finishing as their top scorer in the preceding season.
Depay found it difficult to find the same form at United, however, leading to long spells on the sidelines and ultimately being cut from the squad, with Jose Mourinho preferring other options at the front of his attack.
Now back in form and full of confidence, Memphis has hinted that perhaps the club could have done a better job managing his talents during his time in the Premier League.
“I didn’t understand [Mourinho], he told beINSPORTS. “But he’s the boss.
“I was just not good enough for him. That’s OK. I’ll show my quality here.”
Lyon will hope Memphis continues his fine form as they travel to Paris to face PSG in Ligue 1 on Sunday.
